Last week during street outreach we ran into a graduate of The Doorway. He shared with us he owed the preservation of his soul to The Backdoor, a safe place he found as a youth just after a suicide attempt. He said with our help he got off the street and was working for almost two decades. He looked at the ground when he said he’s recently fallen on hard times. Our staff and volunteer stood on the side of the road telling him, one of their favorite parts about The Doorway is that the skills and learnings developed at The Doorway stay with us forever and can always be applied to our current goals. He stayed true to himself and his dreams once, we believe he can do it again.
He thanked us by offering a piece of art work from his notebook full of drawings. Our volunteer chose a ‘Phoenix Risen’.
